Role Purpose/Objective:
Based in our Head Office in Smallfield, Horley, the Property Management Accountant will play a key role within the Finance team, ensuring accurate and timely accounting for the Group’s property portfolios. This role is central to financial reporting, statutory compliance, and supporting effective property management operations across multiple international client accounts.
Key responsibilities include:
- Property Portfolio Accounting: Maintain and manage accurate financial records for multiple property portfolios, including rent rolls, service charges, client funds, and property-specific transactions.
- Management Accounts: Prepare detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts, providing insights into property performance, income/expenditure, and key variances.
- Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of draft statutory accounts, client reports, and advisory schedules, with property-focused insights.
- Banking & Reconciliations: Perform property account bank reconciliations, ensuring all receipts, payments, and client monies are correctly allocated.
- VAT & Tax Returns: Prepare and submit accurate VAT returns, support preparation of corporate and property-related tax returns and ensure compliance with HMRC and other statutory requirements.
- Client Liaison: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide accurate financial information and resolve accounting queries.
- Payments & Transactions: Process supplier invoices, tenant receipts, and other property-related transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Audit & Compliance: Assist with internal and external audits of property accounts, ensuring supporting documentation is complete and accurate.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline property accounting processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ad Hoc Support: Provide additional support across the Finance Team and property portfolios, including special projects and client reporting.
Experience/skills required:
Essential:
- A form of accounting qualification is essential
- Strong knowledge of property accounting, including rent rolls, service charges, and client fund management
- Experience preparing management accounts and supporting statutory accounts
- VAT accounting and experience supporting tax return preparation
- Proficient in MS Excel and accounting software (Dynamics Nav experience desirable)
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to deadlines
- Excellent communication skills and discretion in handling sensitive information
Desirable:
- Experience with property management systems
- Exposure to pension scheme accounting
- Previous experience in a property management or real estate finance environment
- Process improvement experience or involvement in finance system enhancements
